-6- Fruit Picking and Baking
Find your way into the countryside and go on the search for fruit to make an amazing dessert later. Around the country are farms that open their doors for the public to come in and pick their own fruit with a seasonal selection including strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and blackberries.
With your newfound, freshly picked ingredients, why not bake a strawberry shortcake or raspberry tart? Not only will this be a fantastic reward for a hard day’s work, but will also be a fantastic way of teaching your children where their food comes from, and the benefits of healthy eating.
-5- History Tour / Museums
With a variety of different museums to choose from, there is an endless supply of interesting exhibits to see, from ancient history to wildlife and everything in-between that is sure to peak the curiosity of whomever you go with, including the kids.
How to enjoy museums with the kids:
Go to exhibits that you’re passionate about
Create connections and memories
Don’t stay longer than their attention span
Take breaks in cafes or outside playgrounds
-4- Beach Day Out
When the weather is good, there can be no place better than by the sea on golden sandy beaches with your friends or family. Take a disposable BBQ and create a lively atmosphere which will last all day and night and if you’re going with the kids, a bucket and spade will keep them entertained for the duration.
We also recommend teaching them new skills such as how to swim in the sea, how to build sandcastles and the local geography and history which will be left with them as they grow up.
–3- Scenic Historic Railway
For young and old, a scenic train journey on a historic steam train is the perfect way to spend your weekend as you enjoy your Sunday roast. Take in the views of the country whilst being taken back in time.
West Highland Line – Scotland
Great Central Railway – Leicestershire
South Devon Railway
Snowdon Mountain Railway – Wales
-2- Something Sporty
Whether it’s watching or participating, there can be no better way to create strong bonds and enjoy the hot weather than a sport with friends and family. From supporting your local football team to traversing the rapids on a kayak, there are numerous activities for everyone and we recommend trying a little bit of everything to really know what takes your interest.
If you’re not into sports at the moment and don’t know how to start, go down the park with a ball and use anything as a makeshift goal from trees to jumpers – anything will work, a simple game that will keep the kids entertained, healthy and teach them new skills.
-1- Theme / Waterpark
For all day fun and adventure there can be no place better than a water or theme park, with refreshment areas for adults of course. Whilst we know not everyone will enjoy the rides, there’s always something for everyone and will keep the children entertained all day long with lasting memories.
This is probably an event you want to go to once a year for special occasions like birthdays as the cost can be quite high, especially when considering food and drink, but it’s definitely worth it to see the excitement that it brings.
